Aravala Jayamma
Area of Work: Goat rearing and cultivation
Dimmagudi, Ananthapur, Andhra Pradesh
Aravala Jayamma, like many other women in the Ananthapur, Andhra Pradesh was living a tough life with no support from her alcoholic husband. Her life was on the brink.
Through a timely intervention by a neighbour she joined a women group and started saving Rs. 10 per month. After a wait of around one year, she received INR 10000 as her first loan. She used the money to purchase 10 goats and started rearing them with the help of her children.
Today, after several rounds of loans from banks and the group and successful repayments, Aravala has increased the number of goats to 70. The goat rearing business has helped her purchase three acres of agriculture land, further expand her business and also build a permanent house for herself and her family
My children are happy today and are able to get good food three times a day. My husband too has changed in the process and extends his support. He gave up drinking and is fully involved in goat rearing – Aravala.
