FICCI Young Leaders Initiative
FICCI Young Leaders (FYL) initiative was set up in 2010 with the mandate to support FICCI’s transformation towards a more dynamic and youth oriented approach, but at the same time retaining our strong value systems. We believe it is vital that the youth of India is adequately reflected in our membership and in all our policy deliberation platforms.
With this thought in mind, we set out to create a core group of young entrepreneurs (first, second & third generation) and professional leaders across various sectors to strategize activities that would attract young Indian business leaders to FICCI.
One of the ideas that attracted FYL members was the concept of Mega Trends and their global as well as local impact.
With India poised to taking a leap forward, FYL members felt, it was critical to analyze Mega Trends, assess the recent changes and their impact on India’s socio-economic fabric in the next decade and suggest the way forward for the transition. We found the concept of Third Industrial Revolution (TIR) propounded by Jeremy Rifkin, Founder President of Foundation of Economic Trends, USA highly interesting and intriguing. Third Industrial Revolution has been notified by the European Union and is being implemented in some of its member states.
Consequently, we at, FICCI along with Mr. Jeremy Rifkin worked together to develop a white paper based on the concept of the Third Industrial Revolution. However, while working on the report, we identified five more mega trends apart from the Third Industrial Revolution. We strongly believe these mega trends will influence India’s growth story in the coming decade. These mega trends are:
- Mega Trend 2: New Business Models in the age of Distributed Capitalism
- Mega Trend 3: Intelligent Technologies and Future of Work
- Mega Trend 4: Collaborative Education
- Mega Trend 5: The Ascendance of Civil Society
- Mega Trend 6: Continental Markets and Continental Political Unions
Thereafter, FICCI Young Leaders felt a need to sensitize the younger generation about this new phenomenon and it was decided to hold Mega Trends road shows across India. We took the concept of TIR to Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar and Delhi Technology University, New Delhi. Our Mega Trend initiative is spearheaded by Ms. Parvathi Reddy, who is Executive Director with the NAR INFRA Pvt. Ltd.
