Health insurance sector has witnessed dramatic growth since the liberalization of insurance sector in 2000. The sector now faces critical challenges hampering growth. These include continuous losses, artificial pricing, operational inefficiencies and insurer-provider dynamics.Consequently, this sector and its various constituents need to drive the vision for the next phase of reforms and initiatives. The building blocks of the next paradigm comprise numerous structural changes that include, regulatory, legal, product-related, new operating entities, and partnership with providers etc. The health insurance market of 2020 would see a paradigm shift driven by the government’s intent to usher in universal healthcare cover and greater product and distribution innovation by the insurance sector.
